CANBERRA: An Indian youth was injured in a suspected racist attack in Australia. 22-year-old Harmanpreet Singh, who works as a nurse, was attacked outside a gym in Corio, Geelong. The incident has fuelled concerns over increasing racial abuse against Indians in Australia.

The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night in the car parking area after Harmanpreet finished his workout at Planet Fitness. According to reports, three men assaulted him while shouting, “Go back to India.” The video footage of the attack has come out.

One of the attackers repeatedly headbutted Harmanpreet in the face. Harmanpreet suffered a broken nose and heavy bleeding, and doctors say he may need surgery.

Speaking about the incident, Harmanpreet said this was not the first time he had faced racial abuse in Australia and added that he no longer feels safe. He also said he is still struggling to recover from the shock of the incident.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene in a grey sedan. Police said they are investigating the case and collecting CCTV footage and witness statements. Recent reports point to a rise in racial attacks against Indians in Australia.
