Misbehaved with woman on pretext of talking; Indian-origin man jailed in Singapore

SINGAPORE CITY: A 42-year-old Indian-origin man was sentenced to five months in prison for attempting to molest a young woman in Singapore. A Singapore court sentenced Om Kumar Rai to five months in prison. The incident took place in June 2025.

Om Kumar Rai approached the 22-year-old woman, claiming to be a colleague of her father, and took her to a secluded place on the pretext of talking. It is said that he allegedly misbehaved with her. As per the report, the woman pushed him away and fled the spot. She then informed her parents and filed a complaint with the police.

Om Kumar Rai pleaded guilty in court. The prosecution, citing the extreme indecency of the accused, sought a sentence of five to six months in prison. Under Singaporean law, offences that violate the dignity of women can be punished with up to three years in prison, a fine, caning, or a combination of these.
