
MUSCAT: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on an official visit to Oman, was conferred with the Order of Oman, the country’s highest civilian honour. The award was presented by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in recognition of Modi’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Oman. Earlier recipients of the prestigious honour include Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Japanese Emperor Akihito, Nelson Mandela, and Jordan’s King Abdullah.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Oman coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He arrived in Muscat on Wednesday and received a warm welcome. Oman was the final stop of Modi’s three-nation tour, which included visits to Jordan and Ethiopia.
During the tour, Modi was also honoured with Ethiopia’s Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia and Kuwait’s Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer. The Oman visit aims to further strengthen cooperation between India and Oman in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, defence, and cultural exchange. India is also working to expand collaboration with Ethiopia in sectors including agriculture, education, and technology.
