WASHINGTON: When the world thought the US had gone soft on India after the tariff threats, President Donald Trump came with yet another blitzkrieg, by sharply increasing the fee for H1B visa applicants.
President Donald Trump has ordered an annual fee of $100,000 (approximately Rs 90 lakh) for H1B visa applicants. People from countries, including India, rely on the H1B visa to get highly skilled jobs in the US. This will be a major setback for foreigners, mostly Indians, vying for a dream job in the IT sector in the US. The move from Trump aims to provide more job opportunities for Americans and control immigration.
H1B visas were introduced to bring the best foreign workers for highly skilled jobs in the US, which cannot be replaced by US citizens and permanent residents. Trump said the tech industry would not oppose his new move.
“Companies need workers. This announcement will ensure that America gets good workers," Trump said.
