SHARJAH: The parents of two girls from Kannur and Tamil Nadu, who were named as accused in the death of a two-year-old Pakistani boy in Sharjah, have been granted bail. They were released after paying a bail amount of AED 200,000 (around Rs 45 lakh).

Under UAE law, parents can be held responsible for crimes committed by minors. The parents were taken into custody as part of the investigation. The two girls are currently under the care of the Child Protection Department while the investigation continues.

The incident took place recently in Al Nahda, Sharjah, where two-year-old Pakistani boy Mohammed Arshman fell from the third floor of an apartment building and died. Initial reports suggested that the child accidentally fell through a window while playing with girls from a neighbouring apartment.

However, after reviewing CCTV footage from the building, investigators reportedly found evidence suggesting that the death may not have been an accident. The footage allegedly shows two nine-year-old girls calling the child over shortly before he fell. The child's father, Sajjad Hussain, claimed that the boy may have been thrown out of the window. Following his allegations, authorities took the girls and their parents into custody to determine the facts of the case.

Sajjad and his wife, who have been working in the UAE for many years, had their son after five years of waiting. UAE authorities said that a detailed investigation and legal proceedings will continue in accordance with local laws.
