Man dies after portion of soil collapses during digging of well in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: In a tragic incident, a man died after a portion of soil collapsed during the digging of a well in Azhiyur, Kozhikode. The deceased has been identified as Rajeesh (48), a native of Kariyad in Kannur. The body has been shifted to the District Hospital. The accident took place today afternoon near the Hajiyar Palli road in Ward 2 of Azhiyur Panchayat. Rajeesh was among six workers engaged in the well construction.

During the work, a portion of the earth collapsed, trapping Rajeesh under the soil. Despite efforts by the police and the fire force to remove the soil and rescue him, they were unable to save him. Another worker named Venu, who was inside the well with Rajeesh, was rescued and admitted to the Thalassery Cooperative Hospital.
