THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has recorded a sharp rise in electricity consumption as temperatures continue to increase across the state. The peak power demand on Monday reached 5,933 MW, surpassing the previous record of 5,836 MW recorded on the night of March 26. The state consumed a total of 112.16 million units of electricity on Monday. The all-time record remains 115.9845 million units, recorded on May 3, 2024.
Officials have expressed concern that if consumption rises further, it could lead to overload issues in transmitting power from other states. Northern districts, where the distribution network is relatively weaker, may face local power restrictions.
