KOCHI: With only hours remaining for the Assembly election results to be announced, sitting MLA Adv. P.V. Sreenijin has admitted that according to party calculations, he may face defeat in Kunnathunad. Speaking to a private channel, Sreenijin stated that party estimates show him trailing by 6,000 votes. However, he added that if personal votes are factored in, he could secure a victory by a margin of 554 votes. He also shared a post on Facebook highlighting these points.
Sreenijin expressed confidence that the people of Kunnathunad would re-elect him based on the personal support he receives, the developmental work carried out over the last five years, and his reputation as an accessible MLA. He noted that while he initially believed the Congress was his only opponent and that Twenty20 was not a factor, he now admits a triangular contest took place.
He further alleged that a strong competition occurred involving the UDF, CPM, and Twenty20 in alignment with the NDA. Sreenijin remarked that Twenty20’s alignment with the NDA led to the party's decline but ultimately benefited Sabu (Sabu M. Jacob).
In Kunnathunad, the main contenders were P.V. Sreenijin (LDF), V.P. Sajeendran (UDF), and Babu Divakaran, who contested as the Twenty20 candidate supported by the NDA. The constituency recorded a voter turnout of 83.83%.
