Adulteration in candy and sipup: 81 shops to be closed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 81 shops will be closed following a special inspection by the Food Safety Department in the school premises.

The quality of candies, soft drinks, ice cream, sipup, chocolate and biscuits were tested. The action is based on complaints. 2792 establishments were inspected during the state-wide enforcement drive. Notices were issued to 138 unlicensed shops and 124 establishments. 110 shops will be fined. 719 samples were sent for testing. The minister said that strict action will be taken against violators.

Joint Commissioner of Food Safety Department Jacob Thomas, Deputy Commissioners S Aji, G Raghunathakurup and VK Pradeep Kumar led the inspections coordinated by Food Safety Commissioner VR Vinod.
