Serial actress Smitha talked in detail about marriage and her decision to convert to Islam. She was speaking in an interview given to a YouTube channel.

SMITHA SAMUEL:

“My husband doesn't force me to wear a headscarf. I converted to Islam for my own good. I am a nurse by profession. I worked in Dubai for five years. When I lived in a Muslim country, I fell in love with Islam. I had an intuition to know more about the religion, so I studied it in detail. I studied religion for three months and didn't know how to recite the Quran. However, I grasped the rules of offering Namaz easily. That is when I married. It is not for my husband that I changed religion. I wanted to imbibe their customs of the family I was going to live with.

I continue to wear sleeveless dresses while going out. It is my personal choice. Many people thus question my understanding of the Muslim religion, but I don’t care because dressing is totally my choice.

I have been married for ten years. I have a nine-year-old son. We live very happily. It's just that I have changed my religion. My name is still Smitha Samuel. I am not a strong religious person, but I respect the religion I follow”
