'Boyfriend', the film directed by Vinayan starring Manikuttan in the lead, was released in 2005. In one of the songs in the movie, the director opted for graphics to include superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty for a short cameo. Vinayan now opened up about the consequences he faced after the song turned controversial.

Vinayan:

“The possibilities are beyond what we think. 'Athishayan' was a concept where a little boy grows up like the Hulk. Hollywood directors take years to complete one film. In our country, budgets were limited, and we used to create movies at a fast pace. The graphics I envisioned never came to fruition in Athishayan. Mohanlal and Mammootty were introduced in the film 'Boyfriend' with computer graphics. The issue flared but and I got banned from the industry for two years. Not many know about this.

In today’s time, anybody can create anything they envision in their mind through Artificial Intelligence. Even a full feature film could be created using top-notch AI software. Just give them the photo and the plot, and they will stun us with a meticulous output.”
