
PALA: Public activist and consumer rights campaigner Dijo Kappen has passed away at the age of 67. He had been undergoing treatment for a long time after being injured in a road accident. He died at a private hospital in Pala. Dijo Kappen was known for his continuous fight for civil rights. He gained recognition through his efforts to protect consumer rights and raise issues affecting the public.
He was injured in a car accident last year and had been under treatment since then. He was also a regular presence in media discussions. Dijo Kappen was the founder of the Centre for Consumer Education, established in 1988 to promote consumer protection. Through the organisation, he played a key role in initiating legal interventions in several public interest matters and led many landmark legal battles.
