KOTTAYAM: Former MLA P C George has been granted bail in the hate speech case. He was granted bail by the Erattupetta Magistrate Court. P C George made anti-Muslim remarks during a channel debate on January 5. The police registered a case on a complaint by Youth League Erattupetta Mandalam Committee. The Kottayam Sessions Court and later the high court had rejected George's anticipatory bail plea.

George remanded has been admitted to the Kottayam Medical College Hospital for ill health. George is presently undergoing treatment in the cardiology department. There were strong arguments by the prosecution and the defense on the other day when his bail plea was considered.

There was no evidence collection. Therefore, the defense requested that bail be granted. However, the prosecution strongly opposed granting bail. Such hate speech has been made by the accused many times. The prosecution argued that this was a violation of the bail conditions in the cases taken at that time. However, bail has now been granted after health-related documents were submitted to the court.
