THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Muslim League leader Irshad Chakkalassery, who made derogatory remarks against LDF candidate U Prathibha, has been removed from the post of UDF mandalam convener in Kayamkulam. H Basheer Kutty, the district general secretary of the Muslim League, has been given the charge. The Muslim League state committee also announced that Irshad has been suspended from its primary membership.

U Prathibha became emotional while speaking to the media over the misogynistic remarks made against her. She said she was shocked by Irshad’s statement and added that she would file complaints with the police and the Election Commission. She stated that merely expressing regret is not enough, and questioned the value of apologising after causing harm.

Meanwhile, UDF candidate M Liju said that he does not support the remarks made against Prathibha. He added that personal attacks are not the policy of him or his party. He said elections should not be about personal criticism, but a contest of ideas.
