CHENNAI: Wife of a victim of Karur tragedy, has returned the compensation extended by Vijay, actor and chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). Shankavi Perumal, widow of Ramesh, who died in the stampede at TVK rally, has returned the money.

The woman said she took this decision for being upset as Vijay did not visit her in Karur to offer his condolences. The tragedy that happened on September 27th had claimed the lives of 41. Vijay had given Rs 20 lakh each to the families of the dead.

There were reports that Vijay would visit Karur to console the relatives of the dead, but that did not happen. Instead, he invited the families of the dead to a private resort in Mamallapuram and shared his grief with them.

Shankavi Perumal responded that she was upset as Vijay did not visit her to offer his condolences. She said the money was deposited in her account a week ago. She said that she returned 20 lakhs as he invited the families of the dead to a resort. 'I expected Vijay to visit Karur and console me and other victims. Without my consent, some TVK workers took some of my husband's family to Mamallapuram. Vijay should have visited Karur. This is disappointing. So, I returned the money,' said Shankavi.
