NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has asked Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, to file an affidavit on the allegations made regarding vote rigging. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has asked Rahul Gandhi to either submit an affidavit under oath along with evidence within seven days or apologise to the country. If the affidavit is not received within, all these allegations will be considered baseless, invalid, Gyanesh Kumar said at a press conference in Delhi.
Gyanesh Kumar said that Rahul's allegations of vote-theft are tantamount to insulting the Constitution. "The EC is not scared of such allegations and neither are the voters. I want to make it clear that the EC will without bias stand like a rock with women, poor, young, voters of the country. A false story of vote-theft is being spread," Gyanesh Kumar pointed out.
Rahul Gandhi violated privacy. The pictures of voters were used without permission. The work of the Election Commission is being done transparently. Time has been given till September for election-related activities in Bihar. All political parties should cooperate and move forward. Cooperation of political parties is also required to complete everything in the next 15 days. All voters, political parties and booth-level officers should join hands and speed up the process, the Central Election Commission clarified.
