NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday released a commemorative stamp and a special coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The launch took place at the RSS centenary celebrations held at Ambedkar International Centre in Delhi. RSS Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta were also present at the event.
“This is the first time in India’s history that the image of Bharat Mata has been engraved on a coin,” the Prime Minister said. The coin also carries the RSS motto: “Rashtraya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya, Idam Na Mama” (Everything is dedicated to the nation, everything belongs to the nation, nothing belongs to me).
According to reports quoting officials, it was the Prime Minister’s intervention that fast-tracked the release of the coin and stamp. Normally, the list of stamps to be issued in a year is prepared well in advance, and the RSS centenary was not originally included. However, after Modi’s involvement, the process was completed at record speed.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and published an article extending birthday greetings to Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on his 75th birthday.
