NEW DELHI: A passenger was held for trying to smuggle gold concealed in dates. The passenger arrived in Delhi from Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. 172 grams of gold were seized from him. He arrived in Delhi on flight number SV-756.
The gold was seized from the luggage of a 56-year-old passenger who arrived from Jeddah. A suspicious object was noticed during X-ray screening of the passenger’s luggage. The device made a loud noise when the passenger passed through the door frame metal detector, which further increased the suspicion of the customs.
Then, when the customs authorities checked the luggage, they found assorted yellow metal cut pieces and a chain, believed to be gold concealed in the dates. Delhi customs authorities have confirmed the seizure of the gold.
