Two cities, two victims: Accused in IRS officer’s daughter’s murder linked to prior rape in Rajasthan

NEW DELHI: Chilling details have surfaced regarding the sexual assault and murder of a 22-year-old woman, the daughter of a senior IRS officer, in South Delhi’s Amar Colony. The Delhi Police have arrested the primary suspect, Rahul Meena (23), who was a former domestic employee of the family.

Interrogations have revealed that Meena’s trail of violence began before he arrived in the capital. He has allegedly confessed to raping another woman in Alwar, Rajasthan, just hours before travelling to Delhi to commit the crime at his former employer's residence.

The victim, an IIT graduate and UPSC aspirant, was alone on Wednesday morning when Meena gained entry into the house. Forensic reports and the post-mortem have confirmed that she was subjected to a brutal sexual assault before being strangled to death with a mobile phone charging cable.

Despite the residence having a high-security perimeter—including digital locks on every floor and restricted lift access—Meena exploited his insider knowledge. Having been fired from the household approximately six weeks prior for financial misconduct, he was aware of the security codes and the location of spare keys intended for staff. He used this knowledge to bypass at least four security checkpoints undetected.

The investigation points toward a financial motive fueled by a severe addiction to online gambling. Meena had reportedly accumulated significant debt and frequently borrowed money from acquaintances. Following the murder, he fled with approximately ₹2 lakh in cash and various items of jewellery, which were later recovered by the police upon his arrest at a hotel in Dwarka.
