8,000 new Medical seats: UG second phase counselling extended to 29th: Kerala to get nearly 250 seats

KOCHI: 8,000 more seats will be allotted in government colleges for MBBS and postgraduate courses this academic year. Kerala may get 150 to 250 seats. NEET UG Phase 2 and PG counselling will be based on the newly allotted seats. The start of All India Quota UG Phase 2 counselling has been extended to 29 as part of this. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced that the detailed schedule will be published soon.

The states of Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat will get more seats. The NMC is examining the infrastructure and faculty of medical colleges that are likely to be allotted additional seats. The central government is also considering upgrading some major government hospitals to medical colleges as part of allocating additional seats. MBBS classes for this academic year in Kerala will begin once the second phase of allotment is completed.

Government colleges: 59782, 30029

Private colleges: 58316, 23,931
