KOCHI: A container of a Singaporean ship that arrived at the Nhava Sheva port in Mumbai caught fire on Thursday. The fire was extinguished by the ship's crew. The incident comes barely days after a fire incident in Singaporean Ship Wan Hai 503 near the Kannur coast.

The fire broke out on the deck of the MV Interasia Tenacity at 8.40 am on Wednesday. The Coast Guard in Mumbai received a distress call and sent out patrol boats Sachet and Vimana, but returned after the captain of the ship reported that the fire had been extinguished. The Coast Guard said that it is continuing to monitor the ship, which is now anchored near the Mumbai coast.

The ship, which left Port Klang in Malaysia with 1,387 containers, was scheduled to arrive in Mumbai at 11 p.m. on Friday. The ship has 21 Filipino crew members.
