Astrologer interferes; Vijay and Sangeetha finally take tough decision

CHENNAI: Reports claim that actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Sornalingam have mutually agreed to a divorce. The decision was taken during mediation talks led by their lawyers. It is also said that an astrologer connected to the family was present during the discussion.

The Chengalpattu family court may consider the divorce petition filed by Sangeetha on Monday. The court has asked Vijay to appear in person. Sangeetha has reportedly demanded adequate compensation. She filed for divorce, alleging Vijay’s relationship with an actress.

Reports suggest that issues in their marriage began as early as 2021. Although Sangeetha initially preferred a divorce by mutual consent, Vijay was not ready at first. It is believed he was concerned about the impact on his political future. Later, Sangeetha approached the court.

Sangeetha became a fan of Vijay after watching his 1996 film 'Poove Unakkaga.' She travelled from London to Chennai to meet him. While studying at the University of London, she used to write letters to Vijay regularly. Their friendship later turned into love, and with family approval, they got married in August 1999.

Sangeetha, who used to appear with Vijay at major events, has not been seen in public for some time. There were already reports that the couple was living separately. Even during TVK events attended by Vijay’s parents, Sangeetha and their children were not present.
