Case filed against singer for killing chicken and drinking blood during programme

GUWAHATI: A case has been registered against a singer for killing a chicken and drinking its blood while performing. The incident happened in Itanagar on October 28 during his performance. The Arunachal Police registered the case against singer Kon Waii Son.

Kon Waii, a native of Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district, is a lyricist, composer and a musician. The case was filed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act. The Itanagar police registered FIR on a complaint by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

The video of it widely circulated on social media led to criticism. PETA recommended that perpetrators of animal abuse undergo psychiatric evaluation and receive counselling, as abusing animals indicates a deep psychological disturbance. A study said people who engage in cruelty to animals are three times more likely to commit other crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, assault, harassment, threats etc.

Police said the organisers of the programme have been questioned and their statements will be recorded for a detailed investigation. The organisers said that he committed the act without their consent. When the incident stoked a controversy, the singer came forward and apologized. He said the organizers’ have no role in it.
