NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has told the Supreme Court that during the nationwide intensive revision of the electoral rolls, all citizens who turn 18 on or before June 1, 2026, will be eligible to enrol as voters.
According to the Commission’s affidavit, directions have been issued to Chief Electoral Officers across all states and Union Territories, barring Bihar. It also noted that a meeting of Chief Electoral Officers was held in Delhi on September 10 to assess the progress of preparations.
The clarification came while responding to a petition by BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, who had sought a comprehensive revision of the voters’ list in states, including Kerala, where assembly elections are scheduled.
