Centre orders probe on death of EY employee Anna Sebastian; minister to ensure justice

KOCHI: The Centre has ordered an investigation into the death of Anna Sebastian, a 26-year-old chartered accountant. Union Labour Minister Shobha Karandlaje said on her X handle that an investigation will be conducted over exploitation at workplace. She responded after sharing the post of former Union Minister Rajiv Chandrasekaran on X platform.


Anna’s father Siby Joseph had alleged that the death of his daughter, who was working at Ernst & Young (EY) Company in Pune, was due to work stress and that she could not even sleep or eat. A letter sent by her mother to the CEO of EY was circulated on social media.

Rajeev Chandrasekharan said on X Platform that what has happened is sad and disturbing. He also demanded an inquiry into the incident. The response of the union minister is in response to this.


The minister wrote on X that she is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Anna Sebastian Perayil. A thorough investigation into the allegations of an unsafe and exploitative work environment is underway. We are committed to ensuring justice and labour ministry has officially taken up the complaint.


In a condolence message, EY informed her family that they deeply bereave her demise. The company gives importance in creating a healthy workplace. Anna's father Siby Joseph said the company has informed through a letter that necessary action will be taken.
