NEW DELHI: The Congress has come down heavily on RSS leader Dattatreya Hosabale for demanding the removal of the words 'socialism; and ‘secularism' from the preamble of the Constitution. The RSS has never accepted the Constitution, said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
‘The RSS has never accepted the Constitution of India. Since November 30, 1949, they have attacked Dr Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru and those involved in the formation of the Constitution. In the words of the RSS itself, the Constitution was not drafted with inspiration from Manusmriti.
The RSS and the BJP have repeatedly called for a new Constitution. This was Narendra Modi's campaign slogan in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The people of India have completely rejected this call. Yet the RSS continues to demand changes to the basic structure of the Constitution.
The Chief Justice of India himself gave a verdict on the issue raised by the prominent RSS leader on November 25, 2024. I request him to read it,' Jairam Ramesh wrote on X. His note shared Supreme Court's order.
Dattatreya Hosabale alleged that the words 'socialism' and 'secularism' were added to the Constitution during the Emergency. Dattatreya's remarks were made while speaking at a public event yesterday.
‘The Congress should apologize for imposing Emergency 50 years ago. Words like 'socialism, secularism', which define Indian democracy, were forcibly inserted to the Constitution at that time. We should think whether these words are needed there anymore. The Congress, which did this then, has not apologized yet,' was his statement.
