NEW DELHI: The number of active COVID-19 cases in India has crossed 3,000, according to the latest data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. At present, there are 3,395 active cases in the country, with Kerala reporting the highest number. Kerala has reported 1,336 active cases, while 1,435 people have recovered from the virus. In the past 24 hours, eight COVID-related deaths were reported nationwide, including one from Kerala, the Health Ministry confirmed.

Maharashtra reported 467 new infections, followed by Delhi with 375 cases. Gujarat recorded 265 new cases, and Karnataka reported 234. Since January 2025, the country has seen a total of 22 COVID-19-related deaths.

Maharashtra has reported the highest number of fatalities at seven. Kerala has reported five deaths,, while Delhi has reported two. In response to the sudden spike in cases, the government has intensified monitoring and is ensuring strict adherence to health protocols. COVID testing has been ramped up across states, including Kerala, Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, and Karnataka, where case numbers continue to rise.

Meanwhile, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged the public to remain cautious but stated that there is no need for panic. He confirmed that adequate precautionary measures have been taken. Health department screenings and sufficient supplies of medicine have been ensured across districts, he added.

Under the supervision of Health Minister Veena George, the state has assessed the current public health situation. People with symptoms such as cold, sore throat, and cough are advised to wear masks in public places. The Chief Minister also urged vulnerable groups — including the elderly, pregnant women, and those with pre-existing health conditions — to be extra careful. He further stressed that healthcare workers must wear masks without fail.
