BENGALURU: Karnataka DGP (Civil Rights Enforcement) K Ramachandra Rao was suspended from service after videos of him engaging in intimacy with multiple women inside his office chamber went viral across social media. The private footage surfaced on Monday, causing serious embarrassment to the government. In the backdrop of this, the DGP was suspended pending an investigation.
In the video, the DGP was seen embracing, fondling and forcibly kissing different women during office hours. The footage was secretly filmed. An investigation was announced into the incident. Ramachandra Rao's behaviour was found unbecoming of a government official. The suspension order also stated that his conduct brought infamy to the government.
The footage was released yesterday, including by Kannada TV channels. As per reports, the videos are likely eight years old during Rao's time in Belagavi. A total of three videos were released. Ramachandra Rao explained that the video was created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah sought an explanation on the incident the other day. Ramachandra Rao is the father of young Kannada actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested in a gold smuggling case last year. Rao was placed on compulsory leave by the government following allegations that he had helped in the gold smuggling. The action was later dropped.
