THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department continues its reluctance to initiate legal action even though it is clear that Transport Minister K.B. Ganeshkumar obtained a driving license in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act.
It was clear from the documents that Ganeshk Kumar got his license before he turned 18.
The Central Motor Vehicles Act requires the license to be cancelled for five years in such cases. Before that, an explanation should be sought from the license holder. However, Senior officials have been instructed to seek permission from Transport Commissioner C.H. Nagaraju for any action in this regard. Nagaraju is currently in West Bengal on election duty. He is expected to return on May 2. Meanwhile, officials are looking for loopholes to free Ganeshkumar from this quagmire.
K.B. Ganeshkumar's driving license was renewed with the word M.L.A. added to his name. The rule is that the name of the applicant, as per the identity documents, including the SSLC certificate, should be included in the license as it is.
Positions for a fixed period are not added to such official documents. The concerned officials said that the title 'MLA' will be removed. This will be considered as a 'clerical mistake'.
