BENGALURU: Police have arrested a racket selling fake ghee under the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (KMF) brand ‘Nandini’. The original Nandini ghee is produced in Tamil Nadu and sold in Bengaluru. It is one of the most popular brands in South India. Four members of the interstate racket responsible for counterfeit products have been arrested.
Suspicious sales led to the bust. Based on a tip-off, the Central Crime Branch Special Investigation Squad and the KMF Vigilance Wing conducted a joint investigation and caught the accused. The team found that Krishna Enterprise in Nanjamba Agrahara, Chamarajpet, Bengaluru, was producing the fake Nandini ghee. Investigators searched the company's godowns, shops and vehicles. A vehicle transporting ghee bottles and small packets from Tamil Nadu was seized during inspection. Low-quality palm oil and coconut oil were also seized. Samples have been sent for testing to check if animal fat was used to make the fake ghee.
Goods worth Rs 1.26 crore were seized during the raid. This includes 8,136 litres of fake ghee worth Rs 56.95 lakh, equipment used for production, five mobile phones, Rs 1.19 lakh in cash, and vehicles valued at Rs 60 lakh.
