PANAJI: Footage of the fire at a nightclub in Goa has emerged. Around 100 tourists were there at the time of the incident. They were celebrating the 'Bollywood Banger Night'. The dancer was dancing to the song 'Mehabuba O Mehbooba' when the fire spread behind her. The video shows the fire spreading.
Two club employees immediately rushed to the console and removed the laptop and other items that were under the fire. No one showed much fear at first when the fire broke out. Later, someone from the crowd can be heard saying, “aag lag gayi” (a fire has broken out). The fire then spread rapidly, and the musicians abandoned their instruments and ran outside. Within seconds, the dancers and staff escaped. The fire spread to the ceiling of the club.
The fire broke out at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in Arpora, North Goa. Goa police confirmed that 25 people had died. Most of the dead were employees working in the club's kitchen. The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Many people were trapped in the narrow entrance to the club. Some escaped, but many fled to the club's lower kitchen and were trapped there. The narrow entrance to the club prevented fire engines from reaching the location. Fire engines were stopped 400 meters away before they could begin rescue operations. Authorities said many of the victims died of suffocation, and others suffered serious burns.
