KOLKATA: In a shocking incident, 8 persons were arrested for gang-raping a newlywed bride in West Bengal. The 19-year-old woman was subjected to cruelty on a railway track near Kanchrapara Railway Station in Bengal. The accused committed the crime after beating up the woman's husband.
According to the police, the couple got married despite opposition from their families. The newlywed couple then decided to spend the night at the railway station. However, both of them were kicked out of the railway station by the officials for not having platform tickets. Following this, both were walking through the railway overbridge at around 4 am when local youths stopped them. The youths then dragged the woman to the bushes near the railway track and gang-raped her after brutally assaulting her husband.
The accused fled the spot after the woman fell unconscious. Both the woman and her husband were later rushed to the hospital by the locals. The Kalyani police registered a case on the complaint of the woman. Four accused were arrested within two hours of registering the case. The remaining four were also arrested very soon. The accused produced in court were sent to police custody for 14 days. The identification parade of the accused will be held on November 4, and further investigation is progressing, police said.
