Gaurav Gogoi appointed Cong deputy leader in Lok Sabha; Kodikunnil Suresh to be chief whip

NEW DELHI: Assam's Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi has been re-elected as the Deputy Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha. Congress Parliamentary Party President Sonia Gandhi has sent a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announcing the appointment. Mavelikara MP Kodikunnil Suresh has been elected as party chief whip.

MPs Manickam Tagore and Mohammed Jawed have also been appointed as party whips. The Congress had earlier elected Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Announcing the new appointments, Party General Secretary KC Venugopal said that under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, the Congress and INDIA alliance will vigorously fight for the needs of the people.
