MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, a government employee lost Rs 1,90,000 from his bank account after he opened a wedding invitation received on WhatsApp. The incident took place in Hingoli district, Maharashtra. He got a message from an unknown number inviting him to a wedding on the 30th of the month. Along with the message, there was a PDF file labelled as a wedding invitation.

As soon as he opened the PDF, hackers gained access to all the data on his phone. Soon after, Rs 1.9 lakh was stolen from his bank account.

Following this, the victim filed a complaint with the police and cyber cell. Police said such frauds in the name of wedding invitations started last year, and many people have already lost money this year in the same way.

Authorities have warned the public not to open PDF files from unknown numbers. An investigation into the incident has begun.
