NOIDA: The incident where a 28-year-old woman was set ablaze and killed by her husband in the name of dowry in Uttar Pradesh's Noida has sparked lots of discussions. The woman's husband, Vipin Bhati, was shot below the knee by the police when he tried to escape from police custody. Police have also arrested Vipin's parents and brother in connection with the murder of Nikki Bhati.
Vipin and Nikki got married in 2016. Nikki's family had given Vipin a Scorpio car, a Royal Enfield motorbike and lots of gold and money as wedding gifts. Later, Vipin and his family demanded an additional Rs 36 lakh. When Nikki was unable to arrange the money, Vipin and his mother harassed her and later set her on fire. Vipin's father Satyavir and brother Rohit, who were absconding, were arrested on Monday.
The incident took place on August 21. Nikki's son has testified that he saw Vipin harassing his mother. However, at the hospital, Vipin said that Nikki had set herself on fire. Nikki died on Thursday at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi while undergoing treatment. Police said Nikki was killed by Vipin and his mother for dowry.
