KOCHI: Thousands of people in our state depend on trains for travel. However, one of the biggest problems they face is the unhygienic condition of many coaches. A solution to this issue is now on the way.
The Southern Railway has approved replacing old train coaches with LHB coaches. The changes will begin from next February. The Mangaluru Central–Chennai Central West Coast Express will get new coaches on February 1. Other trains, including the Chennai–Mangaluru and Mangaluru–Chennai Mail, will also switch to new coaches in the following days.
In many trains, the windows are rusty, and the toilets and washbasins are in poor condition. This causes great inconvenience to passengers. With the shift to LHB coaches, these issues are expected to improve. The new coaches will also have the capacity to accommodate more passengers.
