NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India should not remain limited to being a service provider in the IT sector, but must develop its own Artificial Intelligence (AI) products for both domestic use and the global market. In an interview with a news agency, the Prime Minister said India should become one of the world’s top three powers in AI.
He said India has the talent and entrepreneurial energy needed to achieve this goal. “We are building the infrastructure, policies and skills required to develop AI. Our AI models will be deployed across the world,” he said. He added that in the digital century, India will write its own code and achieve self-reliance in AI.
The Prime Minister also said that while India aims for global growth through AI, it wants the technology to remain human-centric. According to him, even though AI can improve capabilities, final decisions must be made by humans. He added that technology will not eliminate jobs but will transform the nature of work and create new opportunities.
