PATNA: Gold is a metal that Indians can never avoid. Many countries earn huge revenues by exporting gold, and every year, tons of it are mined across the world. There is always competition among nations to buy and stock gold. Now, following the discovery of gold in Odisha, reports have emerged of a new gold find in another Indian state- Bihar. The Geological Survey of India (GSI) has identified gold reserves in the state.

The discovery was made during a 2022 survey, which confirmed the presence of gold deposits in Jamui district of Bihar. The state is now preparing to begin mining operations. It is believed that the gold reserves in Bihar amount to about 44% of India’s total gold reserves. Bihar’s Additional Chief Secretary and Mines Commissioner, Harjot Kaur Bamhrah, stated that mining will begin soon in collaboration with the Geological Survey of India and the National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC).

The gold reserves have been found in the Karmatia, Jatasa, and Sono regions of Jamui district. According to Union Minister of Mines Pralhad Joshi, Bihar currently holds the largest assessed gold reserves in the country. India’s total estimated gold ore reserves stand at 501.83 million tonnes, of which around 222.88 million tonnes are believed to be located in Jamui alone.
