CHENNAI: A sabotage is suspected in the stampede that broke out at the rally of TVK leader and actor Vijay in which 40 people have died. It is alleged that the police did not provide adequate security to the public. Opposition leader Edappadi Palaniswami himself had stepped forward raising allegations against the police. He said the police are providing security only to ruling party DMK’s programme. The Tamil Nadu BJP has also alleged that there was a sabotage attempt behind the tragedy.

Meanwhile, the TVK has decided to approach the Madras High Court demanding an independent investigation into the Karur tragedy. A plea will be submitted to the judge today itself. The decision in this regard was taken in an online meeting of TVK leaders. Legal advice will be sought in this regard. TVK has alleged that there is a conspiracy in the tragedy.

BJP leader K Annamalai said the tragedy was due to the complete negligence of the ruling DMK government. He said the police are responsible for accurately counting the number of participants in the rally, choosing a suitable place accordingly and deploying sufficient personnel to ensure the safety of the public.

Annamalai added that the action of the Tamil Nadu government and the police, which acted so carelessly, is highly condemnable. Meantime, Vijay has sought permission from the police to go to Karur and if it is given, he will reach Karur. It is reported that Vijay's arrest is unlikely to happen soon. A decision in this regard will be taken after a judicial inquiry.
