CHENNAI: The Madras High Court will not hear the petition to cancel the campaign rally organised by actor Vijay across the state. The petition was filed by Senthil Kannan, who was injured in the rally held in Karur yesterday. The petition also requests the ADGP in charge not grant permission for Vijay's rally. The petition alleged that the Karur tragedy was not an ordinary one but was caused by planning errors, mismanagement and negligence.
The petition demands that TVK rallies should be allowed again only after ensuring accountability. The petition points out the statements made by Tamil Nadu DGP G Venkataraman, admitting that the crowd was larger than expected and that only 500 police personnel were deployed for security. A judicial commission headed by retired Judge Aruna Jagadeesan is investigating the tragedy. The team has reached the spot.
Meanwhile, TVK approached the Madras High Court seeking an independent investigation into the tragedy. It is learnt that this petition will be considered tomorrow afternoon. In the wake of the tragedy, Vijay has suspended TVK's state tour. Vijay also announced financial assistance to the families of those who died in the tragedy during a rally in Karur. He has announced Rs 20 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for the injured.
