Major fire in hospital ICU in Jaipur kills six, four men and two women among dead

JAIPUR: Six patients were killed died in a fire in the ICU ward of the Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Rajasthan’s Jaipur. Two ICUs, trauma ICU and semi-ICU were operating on the second floor of the hospital. The fire broke out in the trauma ward, where patients in critical condition were treated. There was a total of 11 patients here. Most of them were in a critical condition. Four men and two women are those who lost their lives in the fire.

Dr Anurag Dhakad, who is in charge of the trauma center, said the cause of the fire was a short circuit. The fire caused severe toxic gases and the patients who inhaled them died. As soon as the explosion and fire broke out, nursing officers and ward boys rushed the patients out. Six of them could not be saved even after CPR was given. Meantime, there are 13 patients in the semi-ICU. Hospital authorities also said that none of them suffered any loss of life. The police have started an investigation into the incident.
