LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh government bans production, storage and sale of Halal-stamped food items. The Food Safety Commissioner's office has announced that the production and sale of such food items are being banned immediately. However, the commissioner said that Halal dishes prepared for export were exempted from the ban.
The government feels that the sale of halal food is a parallel system and raises concerns about the quality of food items, while only the respective authorities have the authority to determine the quality of food items.
Earlier, the police had registered a case against a company and some other organizations for abusing the religious sentiments of the people. They were scamming customers by selling food items by affixing false Halal certificates. The case was against companies including Chennai-based Halal India Private Limited, Jamiat Ulama e Hind Halal Trust Delhi and Halal Council of Mumbai. However, Jamiat Ulama e Hind Halal Trust informs that the reasons given by the police are baseless and that legal action will be taken.
