NEW DELHI: The blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening is suspected to have been carried out using explosives similar to those used by the military. The investigation agencies came to this conclusion after considering the intensity and impact of the blast.
Hours before the blast, doctors linked to a terrorist organization were arrested from Faridabad in Haryana. Dr Umar Nabi, who is associated with them, carried out the attack on the Red Fort. However, intelligence agencies have concluded that the blast was not premeditated. National media reported that investigators believe that the blast did not have the nature of a suicide attack and the panic in carrying explosives was behind the explosion.
The IED was not fully made. The initial conclusion is that this is why it was a low-intensity blast. It is believed that the explosion may have occurred while the explosives were being moved to another location in panic following the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad and raids at various places.
The white i20 car which slowed down near a traffic signal exploded. The fire spread to other vehicles. 13 people were killed and more than 30 were injured in the explosion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had responded yesterday that all possible investigations would be carried out into the incident and that those behind the blast would not be spared. The seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad was also based on the statements of doctors arrested for their links to terrorism.
