SRINAGAR: A recent report has indicated a substantial decline in the presence of local militants in Jammu and Kashmir. News agencies, citing military officials, state that while Pakistani militants remain active in these regions, local militant groups have been almost entirely eradicated.
This year, security forces have killed 75 terrorists so far. Military officials stated that 60% of those killed were from Pakistan. According to the report, the majority of the 75 terrorists killed by security forces were foreign militants, and on average, security forces kill one terrorist every five days.
The army killed 17 terrorists who attempted to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). 26 terrorists were neutralized in the encounters that took place in the interior areas. These encounters took place in the districts of Jammu, Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, and Rajouri. Security forces have also neutralized foreign terrorists in Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Kulgam districts. 14 non-local terrorists were killed in nine encounters in Baramulla alone.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed 60 terrorist attacks in 2024, resulting in the loss of 122 lives, comprising 32 civilians and 26 security personnel.
