NEW DELHI: Reports say Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit USA next month. He is visiting US to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meet in New York City. He is likely to hold talks with US president Donald Trump. The two countries may hold talks over the additional tariff imposed on India and trade agreement. The UNGA summit is scheduled to begin on September 23.
The US imposed an additional 25 percent duty on India in addition to the 25 percent initially announced as a penalty for purchasing petroleum products from Russia. India decided to buy oil from Russia at the time the US imposed sanctions during the Ukraine conflict. The US had previously expressed its displeasure over this.
Modi had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone the other day. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the special and strategic India-Russia partnership. Putin was invited to visit India later this year for the annual bilateral summit. Putin briefed Modi on the latest developments related to Ukraine. Modi reiterated India's steadfast stance towards peaceful resolution of the conflict.
