LUCKNOW: Some vital information has emerged in the case of a bride committing suicide in Uttar Pradesh the other day. The dead is 32-year-old Madhu Singh. The police have arrested her husband and merchant navy officer Anurag Singh in the incident. Madhu Singh's relatives alleged that he brutally tortured her. Madhu and Anurag got married five months ago, and her postmortem report mentioned suicide.
The couple got married through a matrimonial site. Anurag had worked as a second officer in a ship management firm in Hong Kong. Madhu's family also alleged that he had demanded Rs 15 lakh as dowry. However, her family informed them that they could give only Rs 5 lakh. Madhu's relatives had also informed them before the wedding that they could not give the gold that he had demanded.
However, Madhu's father Fateh Bahadur Singh filed a complaint with the police saying that after the wedding, he demanded more dowry. The complaint also said that Anurag had sent her back to her house for more money. He took her back after meeting his financial demands. Even then, he told police that he had brutally harassed his daughter.
Madhu's sister Priya has also given a statement against Anurag. 'He did not like her talking to anyone. Madhu would call her when he was not at home and would also ask her to consume alcohol with him. Anurag often checked her sister’s phone and call records. Madhu had also found out that Anurag was having an extramarital affair. Recently, he had been staying with his girlfriend in a hotel,' said Priya.
Her father alleged that his daughter was pregnant and that Anurag had forced her to have an abortion. She was found hanging from a fan at her apartment. However, the family came to know about her death only in the evening. It is also reported that Anurag had told the maid not to come on the day of the incident.
