NEW DELHI: A 26-year-old woman of Ernst & Young in Pune died due to work stress, claimed her mother. She also said that none from her company attended her funeral rites. Anna Sebastian (26), a chartered accountant of Ernst and Young India and a native of Kochi was found dead on July 24. A heart-wrenching letter written by her mother Anitha Augustine to company’s chairman Rajeev Memani, has gone viral by now.
Anitha in the letter said the company's culture of giving work load beyond what a human can do should be corrected and her daughter's death is a reminder. ‘The death of my daughter is too much to bear. I am writing this letter with the hope that no parent will ever have to face such a situation again. My daughter passed the Chartered Accountancy exam on November 23 last year.
On March 19, she joined the company in Pune. Anna had many dreams for her future. This was her first job at EY. She was happy to be a part of one of the biggest companies in India. However, after four months of entering job, she lost all hope. We heard the news of her death on July 24. She was only 26 then,’ Anitha mentioned in the letter.
Meantime, EY also released a statement on the death of Anna. The statement said they are deeply saddened by the death of the employee and will consider the letter with utmost seriousness.
