DEHRADUN: A strong cloudburst struck Uttarakhand, leaving the hilly terrain in torments yet again. The cloudburst occurred in Tharali, Chamoli. Several people are reportedly missing. Several houses and buildings, including the house of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Tharali, were damaged. Rescue operations are underway at the site.

The district collector and relief teams have been rushed to the spot. The Indian Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in the state recently. It was announced that thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rain are likely in districts like Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Nainital and Almora. This alert is in effect till this afternoon.

Police have urged residents to be vigilant in areas prone to rain and landslides. Two people died in a landslide on the Gangotri Highway in the Dabrani area of ​​Uttarkashi on Wednesday. Meanwhile, efforts are being made by the NDRF and SDRF to drain the newly formed lake in Harsil.
