KOLKATA: Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav attended the Martyrs Day Maha Rally led by Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Sunday. Speaking at the rally, both Mamata and Akhilesh said that the BJP-led NDA government is not stable and will collapse very soon. The two leaders lashed out at the Centre at the time when the Parliament session is to begin on Monday.
"The NDA government came to power by using threats and pressure tactics. This unstable government will fall soon," Mamata said.
"Communal forces are trying to stay in power at any cost. The days of central government are numbered. This government will collapse soon. We will have happy days. The people of Bengal fought against the BJP and defeated them in the elections. The same thing has happened in Uttar Pradesh as well," Akhilesh Yadav said.
Mamata congratulated Akhilesh for Samajwadi's good performance in the elections.
Mamata said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is the only party in the country 38 per cent of whose elected MPs are women.
"Trinamool Congress is the only party whose 38 per cent of elected MPs are women. Before the elections, many parties claimed to provide a 33 per cent reservation for women in politics but could not do it. We are the only party that ensured 38 per cent women's representation," she said.
Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee severely criticized the BJP and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the irregularities in the NEET exam. He also asked why the central agencies were not arresting the Union Minister in connection with the irregularities
Martyrs' Day is observed in Bengal in memory of 13 people who were shot dead during the Bengal Youth Congress protest in Kolkata in 1993. It is the biggest event in Trinamool's annual calendar. Lakhs of people participated in the event.
