NEW DELHI: The mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, Tahawwur Rana, has revealed Pakistan's role. It is reported that Rana has also admitted during interrogation that he was a trusted agent of the Pakistani army. Rana has admitted these during interrogation conducted by the Mumbai Crime Branch. Tahawwur Rana is currently in NIA custody in Delhi's Tihar Jail.
Rana said that he and his friend and aide David Coleman Headley had several training sessions with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Rana has also admitted that Lashkar-e-Taiba mainly worked as an intelligence-gathering organisation. He has stated that he attended the camps of the Pakistani terrorist organisation during 2003 and 2004.
Rana has told the Crime Branch that the Mumbai attacks were planned by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and that he was in Mumbai at the time of the attacks. Tahawwur Rana was brought to India from the US on April 9. Rana has been charged with criminal conspiracy, waging war against the government of India, murder, forgery and under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The Mumbai terror attacks took place on November 26, 2008. More than 10 terrorists laid siege to key areas of Mumbai for more than 60 hours and carried out attacks.
